I posted my notes from Bishop Brown’s talk to us about proposed changes to the conference structure that will be voted upon at the Annual Conference Session in June on my church’s website. Good evening,

Some of you may have heard that Bishop Brown is coming to Visalia. I strongly encourage everyone to save the date, April 24 so you can hear it yourself the Bishop’s new vision for the upcoming Annual Conference. (Select the link to bring up the Bishop’s letter.)

There are some major proposals that we will be exploring and voting on at Annual Conference. Please come and join us on our ” ReThink Conference” gathering in Visalia. There will be workshops following the Bishop’s presentation.

Lay Leadership Academy Oct 24 at St Pauls

coming up quickly is the Lay Leadership Academy which is taking place Oct. 24 at St. Paul’s in Fresno. At this event, Pastors and Lay Leaders can receive training on Power Point with Bob Kuyper, the Walk to Emmaus with Ron Greilich, and Advance Lay Speaking with Karen Stoffers-Pugh. Lay Leadership Academy, OCT 24th

Fall Learning Event

We are very excited to have Doug Anderson, lecturer and author, return this year to teach on Post-modernism on Friday and “Leading Change” on Saturday. Doug brought us a great presentation last year and this year should be no exception. To sweeten the deal, we are in the process of applying this event to count towards continuing education requirements. The seminars will run 9:30am- 4pm both days. The cost is $30 for one day or $50 for both days, which includes lunch. With every two paid registrations you receive one free registration. Two for the price of three, so bring a friend, or two! Laity Luncheon on Sept 19th at Wesley Fresno

Hello Pastors and Lay Members,

In case you needed further encouragement to invite your Lay Leaders to come to the Laity Luncheon this Saturday, here are a few more details:

As we have stated before, the theme for the luncheon is “Re-Think Church,” which will be presented by Jim Luther, Pastor in Salinas, Ann Scott, Lay member from Wesely Bakersfield, as well as Glenn Pack from Trinity Bakersfield. These leaders are excited to share how they “re-thought” church and created innovative ideas and programs that have helped transform their congregations and their communities.

Jim Luther has started numerous community outreach programs at the church in Salinas where lower-income individuals and families can receive food, medical care, and dental care. Jim has invited anyone who wishes, to bring a coffee mug to the luncheon. This mug will contribute in a small way towards the Salinas community outreach.

We are still taking reservations for the luncheon, so if you have not yet signed up, please do so quickly. Again this is the Lay Leadership Luncheon, Saturday, Sept 19th, 10:30-2 pm at Fresno Wesley UMC.

Basic Lay Speaking seminar on Friday and Saturday:

Greetings Friends and Collegues in Ministry!

I wanted to make you aware of a swiftly-upcoming opportunity to enroll in the Basic Lay Speaking Course. The class will be held on August 28th and 29th at Grand Avenue UMC in Porterville from 5:30 – 8:30pm on Friday, and 9am-2pm on Saturday.
